Die Abgottschlange (Boa concristor), auch Königsschlange oder Abgottboa genannt, ist eine von Mexiko bis ins südliche Südamerika verbreitete Art der Riesenschlangen (Boidae). Sie ist die einzige Art der monotypischen Gattung Boa. Sie können bis zu 5m lang werden, und gehören daher zu den Top 10 der größten Schlangen der Welt.

Markant ist der schmale, leicht keilförmige Kopf mit dunklen Streifen hinter den Augen, der sich deutlich vom Hals absetzt. Die Jungtiere weisen eine Länge von 40 bis 60 Zentimeter sowie ein Gewicht von 70 bis 80 Gramm auf. Die erste Häutung wird nach rund zwei Wochen vollzogen. Anders als erwachsene Schlangen können Jungschlangen ausgesprochen gut klettern. Mit den Jahren verliert sich allerdings diese Eigenschaft. Die Tiere werden einfach zu schwer. Eine Abgottschlange kann ein Alter von bis zu 20 Jahren erreichen.</span></span></span></p>
